Lee Min Ho is not the best example. Boyfriend is a better one. Whenever I see them on TV I have to change the channel. Asian standard of beauty is different from American. Small face, big eyes, and pale clear skin are heavily valued. Even for men now. But if you look at older stars, they are much more masculine, like Lee Byung Hun, Song Kang Ho, etc. There is a discrepancy between what the younger generation and older generation find attractive in men. A lot of the older males think the trend towards more effeminate men is disgusting.

All of this has been said, but as a guy living in Korea for the past five years:

1) These men display all attractive traits: looks, wealth, popularity, social proof, etc.

2) Korea pop culture totally dominates Asia. SE Asian girls come here in droves to hongdae/gangnam every weekend. They come here and say "wow, I thought all Kguys are like in the dramas...but they aren't like that at all!". On top of this, these kpop/drama stars target young teens.

3) You're using a small example as a representative of all Asian guys. It's like taking a photo of Backstreet boys and Nsync and assuming all American guys are like that. Korean guys can be very assertive (especially if the guy is older as hierarchy is paramount here). They won't give up when it comes to a girl; will force her into a taxi...grab her until she relents, etc, all the while wearing makeup and skinny jeans. Go figure.

4) That being said, Kgirls do "accept" effeminate men more than Western women would. But I've been with literally dozens of women who come up to me and say "wow, you go muscles; I hate skinny kpop boys" or "I can't stand skinny jeans/pointy man heels".

Don't get me wrong, I laugh daily at some of the stuff I see on the street. I see skinny jeans + male ugg boots + man purses here (but the guy is 6'3" good looking and has a smokin' hot gf) so go figure I guess!

These men aren't effeminate. They are masculine men that intentionally include feminine elements to raise attraction towards women. Think of guys that sing R&B. You'd consider much of their music feminine, but women go wild. Why? Because they are tough looking men, that work out, are confident, and so on, but also are very open with their feelings and emotions. This is the best of both worlds for chicks. They get the guy the want in theory, and the guy they want psychologically. I bet the guy in your picture is sweet, friendly, and nice at first, but also the leader of his group, will slap their asses, tease them, and so on. In fact, the outfit almost makes him a little more alpha in some ways. He's SO comfortable with himself and who he is, he has no insecurity or problem wearing all pink. Most people would be too worried about their masculinity wearing an all pink outfit like this, but not this guy, he's totally secure in his masculinity that pink is not even a problem. Women see this and swoon.

Now, this is just my theory on the subject, but I haven't actually been to any Asian nation for more than 2 days. So maybe some of our Tokyo members can chime in.

I watched some of the shows on the Japanese male-hosts that provide company for women and saw a few of the same traits. An emphasis on being very slender, good-looking, incredibly polite, funny and charming while dressing well and the appearance of wealth.

Translation = high value males.

Asian society has always been more comfortable with a different balance between the masculine and feminine. You can see that in books like The Tale of Genji, or modern chinese films where a renaissance man with skills in poetry, music, speech, calligraphy and dressing well is idealized.

The female sexuality in terms of visual stimulation is much more malleable in comparison to their male counterparts.

If you look at what is attractive in terms of male appearance it varies across the globe significantly more than female appearance. From North and South America, to Russia, Asian, Eastern Europe, Western Europe. From Hollywood to Bollywood. Guys being hairy, smooth, mustaches, beards, clean shaven, ponytails, rugged, feminine, younger, older etc. It's a mixed bag. But in all cultures an 'attractive' female is generally young, with longer hair in comparison to males, thin, with a visibly dimorphic figure.

Women's sexuality is malleable because they are the selective gender. You can even see this in the IQ differences. Where men and women have the same average IQ, the female population all tends to cluster around the average number while the male population make up the majority of the outliers; the highest IQ and the lowest IQ in a room will most likely be male. This is because men select primarily mates that are going to bear offspring, and women primarily select mates that will temper and progress the species. Male physical attractiveness is at most supplementary and at the least arbitrary. The traits the are deemed 'necessary' to women like wealth, power, and influence... these 'feminine' guys have them all, and in their social environment that aesthetic is usually a tell-tale sign of a man with those qualities. The irony is that in this case it actually is a social construct, but a completely logical and acceptable one. Whereas female attractiveness (fertile) is a global phenomenon and most likely not a social construct. Even think of our own (western) culture throughout the last decades of the previous century, the ideal 'guy' was everything from Nsync, to mustaches and mullets, butt rock hair and buzz cuts You had the clean cut and rugged Elvis ideal only a few years before the shaggy haired and boyish 'Beatles' ideal. But the ideal woman was always a thin chick, with a decent rack, youthful face, and longer hair.

Something else interesting to add to the mix is the study that shows women gravitate towards more 'masculine' facial features when they are ovulating. Just google it.

They're more accepting of effeminate features (just a cultural fad) but you're overdoing it really. They still are hugely attracted to more masculine features - height, musculature, etc. Just be a big guy and go to an Asian country and look at the attention you get, women will turn their heads on the street for you.
