Somewhere between 30-50% of modern slaves are male, depending on the statistic used. And most of those don't count things like prison labor.

The report says “In fact, women and girls account for nearly three quarters (71 per cent) of all victims of modern slavery. Although modern slavery affects everyone, there is no escaping that females are disproportionately affected.” The report is concerned with pinpointing why this is, so of course it focuses on women and girls.

I suppose you believe the fact that men pay much more alimony than women is indicative of men’s oppression. But considering the fact that on average working women make less than working men and when there is a stay at home parent, it is much more likely to be a woman it makes sense. Alimony is paid to the partner with less income and these two factors make women much more likely to have less income than husband.

In the case of jail, I would agree. But the problem is not that the number of women in jail should increase to meet the same proportion as men, but that we live in an excessively punitive system. Furthermore, I am confident the factors explaining why men are disproprtianately imprisoned are results of our society’s gender expectations. For example, men typically express emotion through anger while women express through sadness. Men are expected to provide by whatever means necessary. Both of these are probably factors in this phenomenon. What’s important to recognize is that feminism aims to dismantle these gender expectations that evidently affect both women and men, so if you want to advocate prison reform, you should advocate feminism.
