I'm a guy. I have a sister and a bunch of female friends, and they often talk about how being somewhere with men they don't know can put them on edge and freak them out, and I've seen plenty of posts online that make it seem like this is a pretty universal experience for women. This is obviously completely rational and reasonable, but it makes me really sad to think that I might be adversely affecting someone's mental health without even knowing it.
I struggle with some trauma myself, and when I get reminded of it, I feel really awful and frantic. I hate thinking that I might be doing that to someone else.
Do any of you bros have tips on how to make myself un-scary to strangers? I don't need to be friends with everyone I see, I just don't want to make their day worse.
Sorry if this post is a little scatterbrained, I'm not exactly sure how to phrase all of this. If it doesn't make sense, let me know.

How the fuck is this rational? These women are fucking insane bigoted assholes and should be called out for this shit.
If a white person is scared of a black person walking down the street, We all acknowledge that person is an asshole and condemn that behavor but women get a fucking pass why?

What about the men who are scared of every girl because they fear they'll get accused of sexual harassment? I just saw a few posts about this subject here. It's sad but people can't alway help what they are scared of and fear is not rational. And that's ok

This is cringe anybody can falsely accuse you of crime or anything there are psychopaths in all groups you mightiest well not go outside and be stuck in basement false accusations are rare anyway https://qz.com/980766/the-truth-about-false-rape-accusations/

I just wanted to put into perspective for guys who are scared of false accusations (so they are wary of every woman) even though it's rare. They then should understand why we are wary of every man (well depends on the situation, if we are alone etc) because of all the stories we hear or experienced

Because women are attacked, raped, sexually harassed and murdered by men at a far higher rate than men are being attacked in these ways by women?
[–]rickstrawburg 1 point2 points3 points (2 children) | Copy Link
Men are victimized, alleged to be rapists, and sexually harassed by women at a far higher rate though
No no, I agree with you. You're right. Men should also demand that women bow to our whims /s

Sure, but how do you counter the comparison to racism? Should white people be reasonably scared around black people? Is it okay for white women to clutch their purses tighter when a black man enters an elevator? Is it okay, just because some (other, bad) black men commit crimes? Does that justify the behaviour, really?
just curious

I think a white person who hasn't spent time with people of color or in black communities is more likely to act on statistics and the feeling of unfamiliarity. I grew up with a black nanny and also worked most of my adulthood in intercity neighborhoods doing graffiti coverup with teenagers and also teaching art and Afro-American art history and lessons to children. That being said, I'm comfortable around people of all colors and tend to judge people strictly on merit/vibes. IMO, women have to constantly monitor surroundings and think about protection. What do men do to protect themselves when they walk to their car at night? Keys out and between the fingers? Mace on your keychain...do you check under your car or backseat? Do you see if people are in cars around you? How many times does a woman snatch a dude's possessions and run out of an elevator? The percentage of women getting robbed, snatched, assaulted whatever is way higher than men. You don't have to think about it because it's rare for you to be the victim of this. Walking my dog, I had a homeless man approach me in a dark alley, it's 3 am; no one around. I told him to stop and not come closer or I would scream. He called me a racist bitch and turned away. With all due respect, sir...race has nothing to do with it. It's the fact that you're a man and I'm a woman and we're strangers alone in a dark alley and you're walking towards me. He went out of his way to walk my direction into a dead end alley and I know shit goes down when you least expect it. Someone w/o a gun, only has to be in arms reach to fuck your world. The numbers looking at women and children who are assaulted and sexually assaulted by men, is staggering. If we lived in a matriarchy, it would be discussed way more.

Yeah, valid. thanks for the reply

Thanks for the discussion and civility.

Also is pretty common that guys openly catcall and say very nasty (and kind of threatening things) to women, which doesn't help with the fear neither.
(At least where I live it might be different in other countries)

Well... tell them they shouldn't be afraid. Their negative view of men is sexist.
Unfortunately, yes, this is becoming quite common for young women these days to feel this way. It's because of our culture and media, which demonize, defame, and degrade men. Men are constantly portrayed as criminal, incompetent, predatory, and perverse... among many other things. Even young boys have started to view all men this way. Most people have bought into the ideas that we're shown, and they're so desensitised to it that they think it's acceptable for men to be viewed so badly.

"they shouldn't be afraid" Ugh why didn't I think of that earlier Thank you!!! Now I know that I won't get raped bcs yk, some dude on reddit told me to just not be afraid anymore 😫😫👍 rape cases have dropped to 0. Ty King 😻
[–]Oculi_of_Ungoliant 1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Absolutely! Now that I no longer fear being assaulted by strangers out in public or getting over my anxiety from my ex-girlfriend's abuse, I will never experience anything negative again. It's impossible!
The laws of the universe dictate that if you don't acknowledge the existence of a problem, that problem automatically goes away for everyone!
Yay! Isn't that great?

You think because you fear sex against your will, that it makes sexism, prejudice, and marginalizing others okay? Is what the woketivists are teaching now?
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
You fr sound so dumb that i don't even know what u r tryna tell me. I already stopped thinking when u tried to use a synonym for rape. 'Sex against your will' gurl 💀

I doubt anyone is scared of the soy boy that wrote the original post. He's a whining little beta with no self-esteem.
The answer to your question is: don't. It's not your job to make sure snowflakes' fee-fees don't get hurt. It's not your job to be every woman's security guard. Focus on yourself.
