I say the same thing every time congress fails to pass a budget or the president declines to sign it and the feds furlough workers. While I am sympathetic to a small number of young, newly employed federal workers who have not yet had time to save and invest, fuck the vast majority of them. Shutdowns of this type are a normal, healthy, desirable part of our system of diversified political power. There have been 11 of them in the last 40 years. That's one every three and a half years. Federal workers damned well know they are coming. They know they can count on an average of 2.2 days salary being delayed every 3 and a half years. Somehow oilfield workers and construction workers figure out how to pre-pay their mortgages for a couple of months and keep a few bucks In the cookie jar because an adverse weather event might mean they lose a few weeks work. But federal workers squeal that they can't buy food for their babies. These are the same people that borrowed vast amounts to go to name brand universities with on campus water parks that they couldn't afford. Then they had $34,000 weddings. Then boob jobs. And they go to the casino for girls night out. And they have a bass boat in the driveway. They have an average salary of $94k. If you can't buy food because your cheque is a few days or weeks late, it's on you.
But in this case, the entitlement seems to go further. The article is inelegantly written, so this could be wrong, but what I see is 1) I work 16 hours per week at a menial job AND I AM ENTITLED TO A PENSION SUFFICIENT TO KEEP ME AT THE STANDARD OF LIVING MY HUSBAND PROVIDED FOR ME WHATEVER THAT STANDARD MAY HAVE BEEN.
We know pensions provide a percentage of your former earnings. Maybe after 30 years at a trade, you'll get 50%. Maybe after 40 years as a teacher you'll get 80%. But who they fuck thinks they should get pension benefits equal to their own earnings when they worked, PLUS the amount a spouse made when the spouse worked in order that you can keep up with the mortgage you could afford when you worked?
Then, this cunt thinks that because she could once afford a particular house, she is entitled to always afford that house. When I was young, I had a new Corvette every four years, and took awesome holidays every month, skiing in Oregon or flying to Oakland for a Raiders Game. Then I got a wife and two kids, one with medical issues. Now I get a new Mazda every ten years and holidays are painting my house or camping in the neighbor's pasture. Where is my free money from the government?!
