“The fear of losing Medicaid, food stamps, and cash welfare programs discourages marriage”. This is absolutely true. One of the main reasons why my husband and I haven’t gotten legally married yet is because the fear of insurance changes. We both have preexisting conditions and really rely on good insurance, and we are not wealthy either. So getting married would put a rift in that stability. And there’s so many legal things that change once you are married that nobody teaches you about, which can increase fear.
