I am a feminist. Always have been and never understood people who were against it. And when I bring the subject, the first response I get is :

"But feminism is all about giving the power to women, you just want to assert your dominance on men and that's not gonna happen on my watch."

Sigh..

NO. Feminism is giving power to the women in order to restore perfect equality. I always take the image of a scale, with men and women on each side. When both of them have the same rights and duties, the scale is stable and both are equal. But when one of them leans, equality is no more and one side is suffering from it. It happens that the suffering side are women and it is why we need to focus on women, for now.

If the scale was tipped against men, we would need to focus on men's rights and it wouldn't be called feminism. But it's not the case : you just need to focus on the one suffering to restore equality.

Spoiler alert : IT'S THE SAME WITH BLACK LIVES MATTER!!! Everyone deserve the same rights but today, it's the black community who is suffering and it's been going on for decades and decades. We need to understand that it is RIGHT NOW the subject we need to tackle. Yes, all lives matter, we know this, but this is about restoring equality, restoring the balance, and that means giving enough rights to black people so that they can finally be on the same level with the others.

We live in a sad world where equality is no more : so many marginalized parts of the population (women, LGBTQ+, black people, latin american people, asian people, disabled people and many more) and it's our job to make sure that everyone have the same rights and duties, are on the same level of equality. Yes, all lives matter but today, more than ever, black lives matter.
