There appears to be the idea that India, as a society, hates women.

This is based on the vicious Delhi rape case, wherein 5 men tortured and raped a woman to the point that she died. They also beat unconscious and broke the bones of her male companion/date.

As a result, the whole of India rose in protests, hunger strikes, legislative action, tears, and prayer. The perpetrators were found, jailed, and kept in solitary confinement for their own safety, and executed a few weeks ago by hanging (with the exception of the minor among them).

And this in what we are told is a country that despises women.

As far as me goes, I oppose capital punishment, but in this case, I oppose it less.
