So, I was reading back about some of the rape accusation against Hollywood male actors in the past 3 years, and the repercussions astound me as they go beyond any common sense.
Many of these events follow the same pattern:
- a woman that used to be in the same college as the accused;
- she presses charges in present year, a decade later;
- she even denounces the rape and abuse allegations to mass media, and the mass media fully supports her blindly and usually also hides her identity;
- Hollywood producers shit themselves over negative PR repercussions and often remove, refuse or reduces the scenes of the targeted actor.
Now, how idiotic is all of that? Regardless of whether the person ultimately is innocent or guilty:
- the accuser presses charges not when the fact is supposedly relevant and recent, but when he's rich and famous to get popularity and money out of this, also taking favor of the justice system and the media being biased towards anything that screams #metoo and the like;
- to make noise and stir up feelings against the accused, the accuser also denounces the alleged facts to the news media which will immediately take the bait and put it as breaking news. This is technically even a crime: slander;
- Hollywood produces prefer to damage a movie or a whole series they're working on, and the career of the actor, just to avoid extremist feminism protest, rather than giving the benefit of the doubt to these often baseless accusations.
