In Australia, the premier of Queensland believes that domestic violence is only an issue affecting Women and Children. Has extended support during the Covid-19 crisis to only a select few victims - being women & children.

I also saw an article in an Adelaide paper saying that firearms sales should be frozen during this event. This is because this can lead to more harm to woman and children! Direct assumption that men are the offenders, without actually saying it. Our gun laws are strict, you can’t buy a bullet without a firearms license. This article was just a cheap shot at men! Even though woman have firearms licenses as well.

What really bugs me is that at these press releases, not 1 reporter ever questions the politician. A reporter could of politely ask the minister if there was any funding for male violence victims.

I watched the same thing unfold after the Christchurch shootings a year ago.

52 people shot, vast majority of them men. Majority of migrant Muslims are men. The government response was to ensure that the families of those directly affected were cared for, asking with special recognition of the women generally not being able to get out and make a living.

I'm very supportive of that happening for the families, and expect that is normal among us. But no focus was put on the Men as a gender. I've heard the defense being that men weren't targeted in the killings so wouldn't take it as such.

Some 1,000 Muslim men in NZ had to go to work the next day and walk around like nothing had happened. There was no special recognition of the fear that would have existed, with that emerging as anger in the following months.

They did offer counseling to the Muslim community but that is very much a Western practice.

They should have had a Muslim men's well being focus after the fact and going forward. We should see what they want, follow a community development process. I do this for a living in the region and there was no doorway in that I could find.
