In the middle ages in england criminal penalties had gotten very extreme, but because of 'benefit of clergy' members of the clergy were exempt from these harsh punishments.

i have no doubt that there were many who wanted to abolish the benefit of clergy, and just hang everyone, but a wiser, more compassionate idea prevailed.

Rather than seeing this as a 'pulpit pass' the courts came to see it as a 'pleb penalty' and so, in a legal fiction, anyone was allowed to identify as a member of the clergy in order to escape the harsh penalties.

I see no 'pussy pass', I see only a 'penis penalty' and I fully support any man's right to identify as a woman, even tho he uses he/him pronouns and dresses and acts in all ways manly, thereby securing himself a 60% sentencing reduction and more humane punishment should he be found guilty.

Just as those long dead jurists decided to extend mercy to all rather than make the clergy also suffer, I prefer to extend our modern forgiveness of women to all persons.

Of course not it's ridiculous. Noone gets to decide their "identity." Identity is a negotiation between you and everyone else.

Why don't you let people fill out a form saying that they're attractive. Or rich. Or tall.
