I can't bring myself to "thank" a mother for "bravely" deciding not to mutilate her son's penis for no reason. What does she want? A cookie?

But it's progress at least. Even though she still spreads the evil lie that the foreskin is "...just a piece of skin".

And remember, that the genital mutilators use a sneaky and dirty argument: Namely that it's a "difficult decision" and parents must be allow to "make their own minds up".

NO. It's child mutilation, rape and abuse.

None cares because it happens with boys but there would be riots if this happened to girls.

Lets imagine that all the "benefits" (as claimed by pro genital mutilation advocates) of circumcision apply equally to girls. And lets say that the analogous form of female genital cutting would be removal of the clitoral hood. After all, if these "benefits" do exist for boys, it only makes logical sense that they would be operable for girls as well. The clitoral hood is a largely analogous structure to the prepuce of the penis, they even originate from the same tissue while in the womb.

But we have no data to support this notion. The studies have not been done. Indeed, to even suggest that we should study this would provoke screams of outrage and condemnation. But studies have been done to promote the "benefits" of male circumcision. So why are we enforcing this patriarchal sexism and denying women the myriad benefits of circumcision? Does it not merit at least some study to determine the value of the procedure? Surely if its so good for boys there must be some benefit for women? Should we not determine what that is and then let the parents make the decision?

The answer is of course no, because even if the "benefits" were 100% certain and proven, no one would accept that as justification to do this to girls/future women unable to consent. But because it is an ingrained cultural and religious practice when done to boys, we work backwards by starting with the conclusion (that all boys must be circumcised) and demand evidence to show why it should not be done, instead of asking for evidence for why it should be done at all.

Exactly

If its so great, it shouldn't be a difficult decision at all. There should be clear, overwhelming, and irrefutable evidence of the massive benefits of the procedure and minor or non existent drawbacks. But this is not so.

Parents, please, if your agonizing over a decision about whether to surgically alter your child without their consent, for life, let your default position be "do no harm." Doctors have abandoned their oath, the government has abandoned its responsibility, and your religions have failed you, so it's up to you now to defend your children when no one else will.

At some point, the cycle has to be broken. Thank you for taking that step.
