In my marriage of ~3 years, I'm the one who "wears the pants". I enjoy being "in charge", but I've realized that in satisfying my inner control-freak, I've been suffocating my husband. I'd like to step back and be the first mate to his captain! It'll be tough but totally worth it I think.

We have a major move to a new state happening this month. In what ways can I step back & let him shine? He's not a redpiller and I'm afraid that if I just drop a bunch of responsibility on him, he'll feel blindsided, overwhelmed, and resentful. (And yeah, it's hard to let go!!)

For instance, the walls in the new place aren't painted (basement apartment) and the ceiling tiles are very gross. I want the walls painted and the tiles replaced before we move in (we have an infant and 4!!! cats, so I'm concerned about their exposure to paint fumes etc...it's basically a very large studio, so no doors to close off rooms). I picked out paint and tiles, and pre-baby I would've gone over and done it all myself. Basically a few days ago I texted hubs that I needed measurements for the walls & ceiling to order the stuff, and that I wasn't sure how to get it done with the baby though I would've taken care of it otherwise. Yeah... I assume that was all Not A Good Idea?

How could I have handled that better? He didn't respond to the text & hasn't brought it up, so is there anything I should say/do or should I let it be? So far I haven't talked any more about it. I reeeaaaally would prefer a nice-looking place since I'm a SAHM for now, but I'll live with it as-is if necessary. I'm a bit concerned about the safety of the ceiling tiles as I think ~2 are missing and most of them are sagging. Should I bring this up or no?

I also typically would handle decor, furniture arrangement, and picking out and buying any new house items. I started figuring out the nitty-gritty of moving across state lines, like the timeline of registering cars.

Any suggestions? I have A LOT of adjusting to do and have only just started, so any tips or resources are greatly appreciated!!

I think I addressed all the questions in the posting rules (except the bedroom question...it's not great, but I'm all healed up down there, so I'll start working on making our sex life amazing when he gets home from work today!) Let me know if I should clarify anything!
