I agree that, if pushed to pick one gender in crisis, I would opt for males - though it is a bit silly to generalise about an entire gender in the first place.

But the assumption on both sides always seems to be that, before, it was the other way around - or at least, better for men. The narrative on the left may be something like before men used to be privileged, now they are suffering because that privilege is eroding.

I do not think that is true at all. Were things really better for men in the 50s, when they had to carry the whole burden of providing for the family with pretty much no options available to those not so inclined or predisposed? Or in the Soviet Union of the 40s, where the horrific war effort and even more horrific state terror reduced the male population to a whopping 60% of the female one (1959, males 35-45 vs females)?

It is a serious question, and one we do not discuss that much here - history discussions are more about debunking feminist nonsense. Meanwhile, we are still portrayed as an archconservative group hankering back to an idealised version of the 50s. Is there any, I mean any, truth to this strawman?
