So I’m guessing most everyone saw JK Rowling’s recent tweet regarding Maya Forstater. For those who don’t, Maya Forstater was a woman who supported and actively tweeted about how trans people were all rapists who just wanted to invade women’s spaces. While all of this is asinine, she started throwing a fit when her employer pretty reasonably fired her ass. As the internet goes, a hashtag by feminists was started to try and... not sure exactly. Regardless, #Istandwithmaya and all of the transphobic nonsense that entails was created. Tying this back to men’s rights, I suddenly got a strange thought about the prevalent narrative that trans people are rapists. I realized that nobody complains about “women invading men’s spaces” when trans men use male bathrooms. Hell I never hear the narrative of rape being applied to other LGBT groups like lesbians. If the idea was that someone who was theoretically capable of being sexually attracted to you somehow put you at risk of being raped when they used your bathrooms, why aren’t these people also pushing homophobic rhetoric? And I think the answer is probably because they still see trans women as men. Think about it. These are the same people who are likely to complain about all men being rapists, so is their transphobia then just them internalizing the idea of men being rapists to such an extent that even someone who no longer even identifies as a man is at risk of that behavior? Just a thought
