I might get downvoted for this, but the age of consent is 16 in Oklahoma, so what she did was not statutory rape. It's one of the rare cases where I feel that not using the term rape is more accurate. It's still a fireable offense, but I don't think it's technically criminal.

It's completely reasonable to debate the power dynamics of the situation, especially of she was their teacher where grade related coercion could be a factor, but they were legally allowed to consent to that sex.

I still think it's creepy and wrong, but as far as I can tell it's not criminal. The part that bugs me the most is that there is no way a man would get as lenient treatment.

Edit: apparently she was charged for 4 counts of sexual battery, so there was criminal acts. I'm unsure as to the grounds of this charge as the article was a bit unclear about ages. It might be related to the interactions with the 16 year old before he turned 16 or it may be that the ages listed are current ages and they were younger at the time.

Honestly, I see stories like this and I remember when I was that age. At 16 years of age, this would have been a very good thing for me, personally. I bet a lot of guys, looking back on their lives would say the same thing about their youth.

It would have taught me that sex really isn't that big of a deal, removed all that anxiety I had about virginity and all the other anxieties and might have even given me some much needed self confidence. It would also have been nice if someone taught me some things about the female body at that age...

The only thing I see that could have destroyed me at that age, is that the teacher would have invariably picked someone else. (Not something to sneeze at either) and I suppose, the possibility of developing feelings, if that wasn't addressed at the start.

If these boys suffer anything, it'll likely be guilt for what the teacher had to go through. I certainly wouldn't condemn her.

I realize this won't make me popular around this sub... But it is how I feel about it. At 16, I just don't see anything all that wrong with it. In fact, I'd be more inclined to applaud her.

I do, however, get the hypocrisy and I see where the OP is coming from in that regard.
