What I know about the law is that the devil is in the details. For example, on the face of the McDonald’s coffee case, it sounds ridiculous that someone earns lots of money for spilling coffee on herself until you learn all of the details and then it becomes reasonable.

Knowing this, it would be good to hear the other side, someone arguing why the details in the 24 years case was justified vs the 15 months case.

I think its worth noting that the man was helping that girl choose her own fate, wheras I believe the woman in question was actually harrassing the guy into suicide.

If you're a helpful male you're more of a criminal than a woman who has evil intent...

Come on with this ridiculous shit. It is true that women get more lenient sentences, but in the cases in the photo the guy literally this woman drugs with instructions on how to od. That is way worse legally and morally than just texting somebody trying to get them to kill themself.

I don’t know the story of the first guy, but I watched the HBO documentary, “I Love You, Now Die” which is about Conrad Roy & Michelle Carter

The headline doesn’t actually showcase much of the nuance of their story.

1st, She was 17-yo at the time.

2nd, Conrad had already been planning multiple times for suicide for a long time and even before meeting her. He had 4 previous attempts. He was on meds and would get cognitive behavior therapy regularly, and went even the week before he died. He talked openly about suicide with her and would constantly threaten it in often manipulative ways. This would not be very easy to deal with, especially for a teen girl. Not to mention they were long distance.

3rd, he was one to drive out, plan how he would do it, and set it up. They had two long phone calls and we have no idea what was said. But he got out of the truck because he was scared. Then she texts him the infamous: “Get back in”. Then he commits suicide.

As someone who’s been in that suicidal state many times in my life, I think it would be a safe hypothesis to say that he wanted her to do that for him. That he knew he’s attempted 4 times and that he would likely get scared and he would need her help. I know if I had a girlfriend like that I would tell her I need her help to do it.

She supportively helped him plan his suicide. I can guarantee without a doubt he wanted to die. She didn’t push him to becoming suicidal nor wanting to die that day. She just helped him with the finality right at the end.

Yeah it’s pretty fucked and she deserved to go to prison and live with that guilt for not pushing back and getting additional help. But I really don’t think it’s her fault. She was just an impressionable young girl who wanted to be supportive.

The headline makes it sound like she
emotionally manipulated him into becoming suicidal, gave him the idea, and kept pushing for it to happen. It’s not like that.
