I’ve never posted original content on Reddit. I’m new to this and so far I just shared memes with groups I think would appreciate them. The reason I joined this is to lose the fake persona that I must maintain on social media. So I want to tell a story. When I was in my early 20s certain circumstances made it so that I did not have a car. I would longboard to work every day about 10 miles away. I would head home really late and always stick my thumb out on the road and hope someone would scoop me. As a man I never got a ride. Never got a ride except for once. It was a heavy snow and so I had to walk instead of longboard. Miserable, really cold weather. Had my thumb in the road hoping someone would help me out. A little old lady pulled over and asked if I was OK and needed a ride. It was probably about one in the morning. She was heading home from checking on her husband at the hospital. I thanked her repeatedly and even offered her money (which she refused to take). What has always stuck in my mind is that when I was being dropped off at home this sweet little old lady thanked me for not raping or robbing her. I could tell she didn’t even mean it in a shitty or sarcastic way. She was genuinely relieved. That sucks.
