Take up dancing of some kind, I did salsa dancing and it was a blast and you get to meet alot of people girls and guys.

Also soccer/rugby for just socialising with guys, and they usually like to go for a drink every other week.

Also a toastmaster club I've heard is good for your speaking. I haven't been to one just yet but I'm trying to get around to one

Get into guns. Take some defensive firearms courses. Go check out some shooting competitions. Girls like guys who know how to handle firearms. It's also fun as hell. The skills learned might also save your life one day.

I lift, play guitar and recently started lindy hop class, MTB in the summer, snowboard in the winter. That is the main hobbies atm. If I count all the things I tried over the years it would be around 20.
I'll join the crowd and say a word about dancing. It's a great antidepressant and you don't need Prozac if you dance regularly. And since we're on TRP, girls and, I suspect, guys become much more attractive when they dance and have a really good time.

As someone else said: dancing. Find out where in your city they have salsa dancing lessons. Salsa, bachata, etc. are wonderful for meeting women and breaking the touch barrier immediately.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend getting a SCUBA certification and signing up for trips with your local dive shop. You'll meet a variety of people, having opportunities to travel, and it's a ton of fun.

Yoga.

Motorcycles and hotrods. It works especially well if you have the bad boy persona.The interesting thing is cars women find sexy are different from what most men think. Its not exotics unless she is a gold digger. A loud and obnoxious muscle car with crappy paint and no interior gives them tnigles.

You might say bullshit on the mangy old car thing over exotics, but remember what gets it for you doesn't often get it for women.

I'd recommend playing poker in a home game environment. I play professional poker online so I've got a ton of experience with it.

Home games are great for socialising, they teach you tons of social skills and you always meet new people (as poker players tend to scourge the land for players to play in home games, they are not fussy just as long as you have the money).

Don't take it seriously, play well within your means and have fun and I'm sure you'll be okay. However, you should read up on live playing etiquette because somethings you may think are harmless are actually slightly cheating and people will get pissed off with you.

Poker is awesome because you are around the table with usually pretty alpha types of guys and the night often takes unpredictable twists. Whatever you do, don't become a degen gambler though! (like me haha).

Photography. Join a camera club, meet other photographers and pros in the area. Some have access to events and model shoots. Women love to model, there's a whole network of them and if you are good at what you do, you may get a chance to hang with a few outside of work.

Many models in my area also work as strippers, hooter girls, promotional gals. If you have chemistry on set and have good game, they'll throw you a free pass to an event where you get to meet their friends and possible hookups.

Nature hike with your friends. It's primal, it's cave-man esque, it's a time where you don't have to worry about stinking like sweat or holding in your farts. Just you, your buddies, and nature. Make it a day trip and get back to the old roots of being a team fighting for survival.

It doesn't really matter what your hobbies are so long as you formulate a social circle where you are the star. YOU need to be the highest status guy in the room when you do whatever it is you go when women are involved. Even competitive PC gamers have groupies nowadays.

As for just fun/good hobbies that will help, here you go:

Martial arts
Body building
Power lifting
Olympic lifting
Crossfit
Play an instrument

If you can do even somewhat well in a local CF competition, you can ride that wave for a while in that community.

I like playing racquetball just for fun at the gym at my university. Sometimes, I will see a girl who is by themselves or a few in need of a 4th person for doubles. I will offer and play with them. It's fun to play, but you only really get to talk outside of the room.

Anime, board games, and Sci-fi. There are conventions all the time and you can meet b level stars. Most of the women are fugly and all the men are betas, but that just makes it easier to be their leader.
