So I found out that my wife has terminal cancer and has a year to live. She has custody of my 11 year old daughter. I pay child support and have not lost any rights as a non custodial parent. I struggled with drugs and alcohol, which was why we split up. I've been out of my daughter's life for years but have been sober 2 years now. I have a stable life , I have seen her once in the last few months . Wife has kept things distant. I live with a significant other, with her 2 kids in our own apartment. We have room for my daughter. Wife wants daughter to move across the country with cousins she's never met because she still hates me. Im going to be visiting as often as I can, especially now, so she can be more comfortable. I feel like I would should get full custody of her when mom passes but I'm not sure how all this works. Im gonna try to speak to attorney but I was wondering what advice people would have an if anyone knows what I can do that I haven't thought of. Thanks.
