This pioneering birth control could redress the balance and see men sharing the burden of contraception, but it won’t hit shelves for another 10 years and until then it’s still uncharted territory ...

Newsflash for the author: men and women already "share the burden" of sex and it's consequences - women just have options, up to and including abortion or forcing the man to pay for the child (in most countries).

Giving men a viable contraception method that doesn't involve a physical device that can fail or surgery is leveling the playing field, not "see[ing] men sharing the burden". We currently have no choice to but to accept whatever burden is foisted upon us by women and the courts.

If women are so "burdened" by the consequences of sexual intercourse, maybe women's groups should stop whining and start supporting research in to viable male contraception options, so that men are empowered to exercise the same bodily autonomy that most women now enjoy. That's what equality looks like.

Most of the article is about how it’s mens time to share the burden of contraception to alleviate that for women but there’s one or two bits that are more from men’s perspective and for men’s benefit...

“It’s a shame for men that they haven’t been able to take control of fertility, as women have,” says Fitzgerald. She believes the gel signals a step towards gender equality, as “nowadays, men are responsible for their baby, so they need to have control too.” Nic agrees: “I want men to have an option to protect themselves from an undesired pregnancy and take responsibility for birth control.”

Unfortunately the gel being worked on is a weekly thing whereas vaselgel is already viable and a one-time thing with not hormonal affects. It’s obvious therefore that any new male contraceptive will being an ongoing treatment not a one-time usage

I'd bet this is another bullshit one too.
