I understand his point. From my point of view, I probably wouldn't have married her under those conditions, since for me, marrying means planning together, trusting that both parties put in their best effort. Could be one stays at home for the kids or does more in the household, or just wasn't as lucky with the career, whatever, as long as both put their best effort, both should live on equal footings.

Maybe there are some mitigating factors now which he didn't mention. Maybe she supported him extraordinarily during law-school, maybe they have kids now and she takes the main responsibility, maybe she's doing a bigger part in the household. But if that's not the case, I would not reconsider the arrangement in his case, either. I'd buy nice stuff for both, e.g. be the one to buy a familiy car which she can use as well, media articles (TV, stereo, ...) she can use as well, maybe invest into the house, make some nice gifts, invite her for vacations etc., I'd spend my excess money for both, but I would not switch the general agreement unless the base conditions (e.g. family planning?) change considerably.

I find it strange that so many people are saying ESH. Ok, OP is definitely bitter about the situation, but she's clearly a greedy little bitch. She could have just shared her extra 15k with the caveat that he ask her before spending her money. Now she's butt-hurt because he makes way more and probably didn't see it coming. Top notch greedy bitch right there. Any person, man or woman, would feel humiliated by such an arrangement.

Sucks how everyone on the AITA thread is saying they're both in the wrong. Yeah, they're married and SHOULD have had a joint account from the start, but if the wife insisted on having separate accounts she should be okay with that regardless of who's making more money.

I've had similar discussions with my wife, currently our wage isn't really different but I feel like it would be smarter to plan as a team, like imagine I am very frugal over the next 20 years and I retire when I am 55 and she doesn't and has to work until 65? Gotta be a team effort imo
