I just skimmed the article, but I was actually pleasantly surprised at it. It's from the guardian and cross-linked from men'slib so I was expecting it to be a massive victim blaming diatribe, but I was wrong.

It talks specifically about an informal group therapy session between men and how it works. It strips a lot of the formalities of therapy and focuses more on men just getting together at a bar and shooting the shit about life and things they need to get off their chest. The article even acknowledges that men process their emotions differently than women.

The article did stop short of hard hitting statements I'd have like to have seen. For example, the fact that it shows a distinct mental health benefit to male only spaces that are demonized as discriminatory while society sees value in female only spaces. I also think the setting is good but not ideal. Hanging out and shooting the shit does help men, and most men don't get enough of that in our lives, but men also tend to bond and open up shoulder to shoulder rather than face to face. It also failed to draw the fact that much of this sharing is cathartic because in most settings men are shamed for expressing hard emotions, especially towards women.

I see it as a step in the right direction. Unless in the last few paragraphs I skipped they invalidated all the rest of the article, this is actually a good thing coming out of men'slib and the guardian.
