The only abortion laws that I support are those that are gender neutral and work to give both mother's and father's as equal rights as possible within the limits of biology. This law seems to fail that test.

So two college kids fuck at a party(unmarried), the girl gets pregnant, wants an abortion at 8 weeks, the guy wants to keep it. So the state should force her to go through 9 months of pregnancy? in which she may become diabetic, get an embolism, not drink/dye hair/eat sushi, gain weight, have morning sickness, quit her pilates, drop out of school for atleast a couple of months, miss her finals, waste a semesters woth of college money, just because the guys wants to keep the baby?

[–]orangeLILpumpkin 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not necessarily. Simply giving both of them the legal right to choose to not be a parent would create equality within the constraints of biology.

Oh I totally agree that the man should have the option opt out of becoming a parent and not be forced to pay 18 years of child support becuase the girl refuses to get an abortion and 2 days of bedrest.

Until birth? This is real? I can't believe it is real ,So they can kill 7-8 months baby?

They are out of their mind?there is no amount of rape or abuse can justify somebody kill a 7-9 month baby.

she can fucking give the baby for adoption. She has that option.

Not even Orwell imagined a world like that.

[–]14b755fe39 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

this bill prevents the law from forcing a woman to continue her pregnancy if she could die or get seriously injured from it. it doesn't give her the right to get an abortion because she changed her mind at the 9th month.

[–]user_miki 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

There are many options. Law can be abused. There are many abuses of the laws.Health is not only physical health, she can get a certificate from a psychiatric doctor that was abused and/or have metal problem(she could die of or suicide aso) and she will kill that baby. Don't bullshit , we know how things works.Otherwise the law would not be hailed by the progressives in NY.They know what they do.

Can be a healthy baby killed? Yes or not?

[–]14b755fe39 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

'law can be abused' argument is valid for any law that is beneficial to society, this law will cause more benefit than harm. Yes some unresponsible woman may eventually abuse the law but this isn't a reason to force dozens of normal pregnant women who have gotten sick during their pregnancy to live out their potentially life threatening pregnancies.

A pregnancy can be terminated if it is going to kill/injure the mother. My hope is that upon termination of the pregnancy the baby will live, but the mothers life is more important than the pregnancy.

If I understand it correctly, before this law any pregnant woman already has the choice to an abortion before 24 weeks (because she wants to), so unwanted pregnancies are already out the window at this point (it is easier to do an abortion when he fetus is undeveloped). This law will help woman who get sick as the pregnancy progresses.

or get seriously injured from it

It is only a matter of time (my guess is not much time) before "I will be mentally damaged by having this baby" is argued to be a form of "serious injury". And at that point, it gives women the right to abort in the 9th month because they changed their mind.

That is your speculation, you can make that claim once you gather data and prove (woman claiming insanity for abortions) the law is abused and that the law has done more harm to society than good, but not a moment before

[–]orangeLILpumpkin 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Completely disagree. I think one of the most important role for legislators is to identify and consider any unintended consequences of the laws they are considering, and to modify the law to avoid any unintended consequences that aren't wanted.

For example, we don't have laws that simply say "it is illegal to kill another human being". We have laws against murder, and those laws provide for situations where killing another human being is legal. That's because, at some point, legislators realized that an unintended consequences of a complete ban on killing would be that individuals weren't legally permitted to protect themselves from being killed.

you kind of changed topic..but like I said for the 'insanity 'claim you would need to show evidence of it occurring (may be in other countries/states etc.), after all we have evidence that killing some one in self defence is beneficial for society. For example in states where the abortion limit is 10-12 weeks is there any evidence that women are claiming insanity to get later abortions?, if a women can claim insanity after 24th week they can claim it after the 12th as well..

a claim can be made as a 24 week old fetus has developed a nervous system and is capable of suffering and feeling pain, should have a shot at life (ie not aborted but birthed, which is what is mostly done) but forcing the mother to continue the pregnancy is out of the question, the Dr decides after a risk analysis, because forcing the pregnancy is a violation of (womans)bodily integrity.

what does this have to do with MensRights? go ask a womens health subreddit

I am for it, its the doctors call, if the pregnancy is threatining the mother, she shouldn't be forced to continue the pregnancy which may kill her or leave her in serious risk. The doctor makes the call and state the reason why.

This bill doesn't grant any pregnant lady to get abortions unconditionally until the last day.

this is the bill: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2017/s2796

There are alternatives to unlimited abortion. Like use your brain before you fuck? Like use contraception, which is easily available?

Actions have consequences. The consequence of unprotected screwing around is the possibility (not the "risk"!!) of creating life - life for which you are responsible..

And, yes, I am quite aware that there is a low (!) number of cases where there is no other acceptable option than an abortion. But to use abortion as an alternative method of contraception? Murder a living being because you could not be bothered to use contraception? No way.

[+]Nateplays8551 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

It's not even about when it is a living human anymore! It is really just people not willing to say they screwed up and didn't use contraception. You can literally pick up condoms at the dollar store! What is so hard to understand with these people? Take responsibility for your actions and don't make a law that gives unlimited abortions. At least before this they were trying to stop repeat abortions. IMO the only abortions allowed should be when the mother is in danger.

I wonder how PETA feels about this? If eating meat is murder killing babies at any time during pregnancy must be more serious?

[–]jak_22 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

IMO the only abortions allowed should be when the mother is in danger.

I can see another justification when the woman was raped. She should not be forced to carry the child of the rapist.

[–]14b755fe39 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

this law doesn't give unlimited abortions, it prevents the mother for being forced to continue a pregnancy that could kill her or put her health at risk.

  • PETA says meat is murder because an animals life trumps your right to a hamburger (the alternative is a veggie burger)
  • NY bill says the mothers life trumps the life of the fetus living inside her (the alternative is the mother dying/seriously injured)
