Do a DNA test with 23andme, and if you have any native DNA, it will say it could be from anywhere from Vietnam through Japan and China, Eastern Russia, or anywhere in North and South America. It doesn't prove anything about being a Cherokee. This is just a story her family told over and over that they think adds to their mystique, and she used it because she's a lawyer and lawyers are evil.

Look up Oklahoma Freedmen and see how far the Cherokee take this idea.

To make a long story short, in the 1980s the Cherokee used a technicality from the 1880s to kick out all the black Cherokee in their tribe. These black Cherokee may have more Cherokee than the white Chief who is 1/64th Cherokee but because they kicked them out.

This is really about Cherokees and blood quantum, has very little to do with Warren. .

Cherokees don't believe in blood quantum, don't need a certain % to be a member of the tribe. In some ways this is good - no arbitrary numbers. In some ways it is bad - you know someone high up in the Nation? You get to be a member!

Other tribes do set a blood quantum though (the Kiowa tribe mentioned on NPR) and so we don't hear from them about Warren and blood.

Fuck her for trying to weasel her way into the Cherokee Nation. You have to be registered at birth by your native blood parents or submit to the tribal government an application for them to search the registries for your ancestors if you weren't already registered.

So either A) she tried, and they denied her claim

Or

B) she was too lazy to try

Or

C) knew it was all bullshit from the start

Cherokee Nation keeps a close eye on all of this

She never tried to claim tribal citizenship. She just said she had a Native ancestor... which appears to be correct.

I don't see what the problem is. If the DNA test was honest and accurate then she is part Native American. If she is trying to claim certain benefits as a result of this test, which I don't believe she is, then you might have an issue. But other than saying her DNA test showed what she had been saying all along, what's the issue. All politics aside
