What is this? I thought there was already an International Women’s Day. Oh there is, thats on March 8th.

When you look up International Day of the Boy it just leads you to International Men’s Day.

The US branch’s website is http://www.dayofthegirl.org and states,

“Our work to dismantle the patriarchy and fight for social justice is rooted in girl-led activism across the country, using October 11th as a day of national action.

October 11 is not just a day; it’s a movement.

A worldwide revolution.

We want ourselves, and girls everywhere, to be seen as equals, in the eyes of others and in our own eyes.”

Now, in other countries where there are real inequalities, I would not have an issue with this day. Countries where there is actually patriarchy.

However, there is no patriarchy in the US. Women are already equal, and in a lot of areas have unfair advantages over men. I am sure if you have looked at this subreddit before, you would know what I am talking about.

Its just confusing why they need another day. Constantly advertising that women need to be seen as equals just falsely makes people assume they aren’t equal here. And I noticed this states it is a “100% youth-led movement”, so it seems to be actually for younger girls and not women in general. However, I would argue even more that this can make them feel unequal at a young age, and then make them grow up feeling like they are worthless or there is a patriarchy or there is institutionalized sexism towards women.

I am all for equality. This day does not seem to help though, for either gender.

Any thoughts on this? I just learned about it today. Perhaps I misinterpreted it.
