So I saw the below post made by a woman and while I agree with some of it I don't agree that all men are out to get women which is what this post feels like.
"To all the men who claim they give a shit about the women in their lives:
Did you check in on them the past week? Ask them if they've been affected by the news, if you can do anything for them?
Have you bothered to listen to them when they told you about their assault? Did you tell them you believe them? Or did you make up an excuse, justification or apology for the person who did it?
If they haven't told you, ask yourself why. Don't assume it hasn't happened to them, assume you're not trustworthy enough, because you honest to god might not be. Reflect on that. Or, maybe you are trustworthy, but the women in your lives are protecting you emotionally, like they always do. Maybe you should reflect on that. Reflect on why women are constantly doing all the emotional work for you.
Have you heard your buddies speak about us in a degrading way? Objectify us? Hypersexualize us? Infantilize us? Belittle us? What did you do in that instance? Reflect on that.
If you've ever told a woman you cared about to carry mace with them, not go jogging at night, to watch their drink at a party, than you believe and know about rape culture, about toxic masculinity.
Reflect on what you're going to do about it. Then go do that thing." -Julia
