I think there are 2 problems and 1 non-problem here.

Non-problem: Having diverse characters that were always that way. Black Panther and Blade have always been black and everyone loves those characters. Wonder Woman has always been a woman - perennial favourite in the comics and blockbuster movie.

Problem 1: Taking existing characters and flipping them to non-white and/or female in the name of social justice. If you want more diverse characters then create more new diverse characters. Don't fuck with the existing characters.

Problem 2: Hiring crappy writers and artists despite their lack of talent, just because they are female, transgender, muslim or non-white. That sort of virtue-signalling through hiring decisions is always going to harm the quality of your company's output. It's an especially egregious thing to do when there are lots of very talented writers and artists who can't get work because they're white, male or have conservative political views.

Is there anyone left at Marvel who isn't complete shit at writing stories?

I saw the writing on the wall during the clusterfuck that was Civil War in 2006-07 and stopped giving Marvel my money.

But that's the problem when 'activists' pretend to be 'artists'; 'activists' (especially those of the oppressor/oppressed school) have no interest, and very likely no capacity, to comprehend any worldview but their own. They cannot write good heroes because their heroes are just self-inserts, which should tell you a great deal about their personalities ("Ask Me About My Feminist Agenda" Mockingbird). And their villains aren't even cardboard caricatures; they're bordering on tissue-paper caricatures (Red Skull wants to make America great again wink, wink, nudge, nudge, sledgehammer to the face, THIS IS DONALD TRUMP!!!!!).

They have turned comic books into Social Justice Chick Tracts.

I'm mostly fed up with how boring superhero movies have become.

I read all these stories in the comics years ago. The action sequences are a small part of the books and yield some of the best art.

In the movies, tho, they're interminably long and pointless and repetitive and dull dull dull dull.

I haven't been to see any of the big Marvel movies since Civil War.

I can be bored for free at home.

Diversity doesn't enter into it. The first season of Jessica Jones, for instance, was fantastic.

I would argue that this is why anime is rising in popularity (more so).... because Japan does not give a fuck. They stick to good stories and characters, Overlord is a pretty good example of something using an incredibly tired formula but succeeding on the strength of its characters and story.

[I.e. Isekai anime is ultra overplayed. OP protagonist is ultra overplayed. Overlord managed to do both with great success]
