The article is short and somewhat slight, but to me its point is more to criticize certain bugs in the brains of her investors and the media, rather than to give Holmes a "pass". It explains in part (but does not excuse) her conduct by pointing out its roots in "a combination of curdled prosperity gospel and you-go-girlism from the aughts". It highlights something that nagged at me when reading Carreyrou's book -- how she managed to dodge due diligence -- she deflected any questions or doubts by casting them as unfair treatment of her as a young, female entrepreneur. Holmes was able to leverage fear in the investment and media communities of being labeled sexist or unsupportive of female entrepreneuers into a massive fraud.

I've wondered just how deep the downfall of Holmes bit into the soul of feminists. I guess we now know.

I've also wondered if the current backlash against Elon 'Ironman" Musk (often from nasty female journalists) is in large part a bitter reaction about what happened to Holmes. Watching Elon launch rockets into space with stunning success while at the same time watching Holmes go down like the Hindenburg Blimp must have triggered them pretty hard.
