(contains spoiler) I just watched The Phantom of the Opera again, as I have a soft spot for romantic musicals, (not very redpill of me, I know, but fuck it I like what I like), and I realized that TPOTO is a fantastic example of what oneitis is and how it WILL ruin your life.

In the film, the phantom irrationally falls in love with a young lady. We know this love is irrational because they never actually have a relationship. He just observes her, and has very limited communications with her. This is a prime example of loving the IDEA of someone, not the actual person. As many years pass he devotes his entire being to her, and by putting her on such a pedestal, he becomes too cowardly to actually put the moves on her, because being rejected by her would ruin what he believes to be the purpose of his life, which is loving her. Therefore he is paralyzed by the idea of rejection, yet he cannot move on with his life.

Its clear that the Phantom could do so much more with his life, such as being a playwrite or star of the shows that he writes, since he definitely has quite a knack for writing, directing and singing, yet he only writes shows so that he can watch his "love" from afar. His obsession with her becomes so deep that he it even drives him to commit murder when he feels she is not giving him enough attention.

All in all I think someone with oneitis should give this movie a view. Imagine yourself as the phantom, and Christine as the girl you are crushing on, and it becomes pretty clear how you are ruining yourself, much like the phantom is. I won't give away the ending, but let's just say the final dialogue between the phantom and Christine hit me like a wall.
