Being “creepy” is an inevitable part of young men learning to speak to women they’re interested in. Young men shouldn’t allow women who’ve never had to be the pursuer shame them for trying and not being perfect at it on their first tries.

He also said childrearing should not be considered as non-work, adding the country needs to "create a system to care for mothers who are engaged in the hard work called childrearing."

There it is. Pay women to make babies.

Silly boy, women always get paid to make babies.

Taking care of your own children is your responsibility. Taking care of other's children is work, and usually paid.

Japanese men are expected to be the workhorses of society. There's a reason more men are dropping out in Japan.

Japan seems to be a very anti male society. Aren't men there literally given allowances by their wives? And they wonder why so many young men have no interest in getting married and having kids?

I find the grass-eater phenomenon disturbing -- not due to the grass-eaters themselves but the response by the government. Even in the face of potential demographic collapse they have yet to even consider the crazy idea that supporting men and men's rights might be a viable solution. This does not auger well for other advanced technological societies.

Japan is definitely anti male. Men are always treated as second class citizens:

Only men are allowed to clear nuclear waste.

The penis is depicted everywhere but you go to prison if you have a sculpture of a vagina.

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/news/artist-who-made-canoe-modelled-on-her-vagina-arrested-on-obscenity-charges-9902488.html

Women are allowed into men's changing rooms and toilets but men are not allowed into women's.

At the mixed hot springs men bathe naked but women have a towel.

It is illegal for a local council not to provide housing for females.

Basically women are revered and men are treated as second class citizens no question.

My impression is that it's not anti-male as such - or at least no deliberately so. It's just quite a rigid, conformist society where everybody is expected to fit in and perform their prescribed role without making a fuss or standing out too much. At least in public, which probably at least partly explains why things get a little strange when it comes to stuff that is enjoyed privately.

That kind of society is no picnic for women either. I understand that it is common, for instance, for women to be pushed out of paid work when they marry whether they like it or not and whether they plan to have children or not, etc. Thus marriage and family becomes a very difficult prospect because the state of their economy, much like most other "first world" developed nations, means it is simply not practical to support a family on the husbands wage alone. But as in any society that is still very "traditional" in regard to gender roles, the problems and advantages for each sex tend to be different, but they certainly exist for both.

... and where there is basically zero crime, extremely good health, a high standard of living, and... wait for it --- no gender war.

And where there is a draconian judicial system, massive problems with mental health with a staggering (male) suicide rate, a dangerously aging population, decades of completely stagnant economy with a declining standard of living and, while no "gender war" that looks much like the one we have in the west, there is certainly enough tension to drive movements like the grass-eaters/herbivores mentioned in the parent comment.

There are some things they are doing better than "us" in the Anglosphere or broader West for sure, but it is certainly not a society I would like to emulate either.

decades of completely stagnant economy

It's just as "stagnant" as the economies of the West. After normalizing for population decline the growth rate is similar to in the West. And what is so horrible about population decline, exactly? It's the single most effective way to clean up the environment, although the eco-terrorists will not admit it. The fact that Japan is facing the music on the economic Ponzi scheme known as infinite population growth, does not make the West superior. The per capita numbers are more relevant to standard of living, economic development, etc...

there is certainly enough tension to drive movements like the grass-eaters/herbivores

It's not a "movement."

I've lived some 20 years of my life in Japan.

On allowances:

Yes, but this doesn't tell the whole story. In Japanese you say okozukai, which does mean "an allowance." But in the overwhelming majority of cases, female partners follow the same rule. You both transfer over all but your allowance into the joint account, which is used to pay for food, housing, appliances, and go into savings.

Since Japanese people save about three to four times as much as Americans, I'd say the system works well.

I agree with the rest of your points.

Going to have to actually agree with this one, up to the age of 1 at least. In the same sense that abortion is a legal but and accepted "unwelcome idea," of course.
