US Preventive Services Task Force provisionally recommends clinicians should screen women for intimate partner violence. Women who screen positive should be provided or referred to appropriate services. No similar recommendation for men. Would create a lopsided view of IPV. Comments can be submitted

IPV is a significant public health problem. According to the CDC, 37.3% of U.S. women and 30.9% of U.S. men experience sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.1 The prevalence of lifetime psychological aggression is higher (47.1% of women and 47.3% of men). Lifetime severe physical violence is experienced by 23.2% of women and 13.9% of men.

Why aren't they screening male patients with questions like "How many times have you beaten your partner today?"? With "I don't beat my partner" being interpreted as "I beat my partner constantly."

Kaiser Permanente asks me every time I'm there and whenever someone new sees me in the same visit. The intake nurse and then the doctor and then the next nurse who is doing whatever the doctor ordered and so on...sometimes 2-4 times per visit).

It is often enough that it would be kinda annoying, but I appreciate that the do it for everyone and apparently always.

I think the pharmacy techs are the only people who don't ask about it.

I'm not sure what this is about, but 100% of my patients are screens for domestic abuse regardless of who or what they are. I have yet to have a man admit to feeling unsafe even when he was there for admitted domestic abuse. I've had men come in with stab wounds, smashed hands, split lips and scratches, and a man that lost his eye when he was hit in the face with a coffee mug. And these are just off the top of my head and don't include the multitude of men that didn't honestly admit how something occurred.

Men never get consideration. That's just how the system works now, and what we need to change.
