The headline from the article isn't quite accurate:

Tennessee man wrongly jailed for 31 years finally becomes a millionaire

He's not a millionaire. He received the maximum amount of $1,000,000. However, a third of that goes to the attorney and after that he's only getting monthly payments. He got compensation and cleared his name, but he's not a millionaire.
