Note: this is a legit charity genuinely interesting in helping men, in fact they're the best in the UK. Be aware that some other organisations claiming to help male victims do the exact opposite.

Oops, meant to say Half Marathons, but the message is the same..

[–]VictorVrine 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

6 half marathons

So 3 marathons?

[–]Suntherian 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, you could have told me he was running circles and I’d still feel this was stupidly important.

Lol. Here's $10. (Rescinded. It wouldn't take from PayPayl; min 26.7. So I went Visa debit...and then it wanted to put me thru the hoops to join Virgin Money. FFS. Cancel)

You can also donate through https://mydonate.bt.com/charities/mankindinitiative without signing up for VM.

That's six more half marathons than I've ever done. Good for him.

Good on him. Thanks for posting to let us know - this also belongs on the UK reddit sub, it'd be worth doing a cross-post if only because more sponsorship.

Actually doing something than just talking about doing something.

Now that is activism! Hat's off to you Vince!

[–]redleader 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is the kind of post this sub need more of instead of ones circle jerking about being victims.

[–]jimmywiddle 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Raising awareness of victims is exactly what causes posts like this one... Both are required to move forward.

[+]redleader -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not taking about actual victims. Large part of this sub is only interested in being professional victim looking at the posts that get upvoted.

Ive been victimized as a youth and thought it was a normal bullying scenary until I realized as of late that it had gone from normal bullying to Gender Discrimination abuse which carried over into adulthood. Now I'm left unemployed and without possibilities of sustainable work. These reasons include being accused of sexual harassment, mental disability, A.D.D, and little support from my family. I am however finally on disability which took forever cause no-one wanted to help me out with proper access to neccassary applications.

Donated.

[+][deleted] -12 points-11 points-10 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Now i dont want to be THAT guy... But how does running do anything? It's like eating ice cream to protest the north Korean government. Makes no sense and makes no difference.

[+]Sorry_IAMA_Canadian1 points 8 years ago [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link

It's for donations, literally to support abused men. How do you not understand that? Fundraising doesn't have to be a huge spectacle, and he's done a damn fine job by himself thus far.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Oh i see. Well raising money and charity wont fix the problem. Need to tackle the root of the problem. Which is the government. Governments dont give a shit about men.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Instead of raising money to help men we need to change public opinion. The narrative is always" Only women are victims, women need our help, lets have international women's day" i say not to take those things away from women but instead to make international womans day an international day of protest. Where are the international mens day? How about we protest infront of women only homeless shelters? Ask where are our shelters? Protest infront of abortion clinics and demand our reproductive rights! Protest everything that puts women on a pedestal and demand the same for us. Since the media only focus on women, we should photobomb every single event or institution(that way we will get media coverage) untill we are treated with the same respect and given the same rights. No more having mens rights protests. Nobody gives a shit. Protest womens rights and demand equality amd you will see things change.

[–]Vincenorris1010 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Actually, there is a international men's day celebrated in November every year.

All I'm trying to do is raise money to help men (and their families) get specialist support whilst also raising awareness of the bigger issue at hand - I believe that 'does' a lot more than you may think. But each to their own I suppose...

[–]IronJohnMRA 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Hello Vince. Thank you for your efforts to help men. Please don't let the negative comment here dissuade you. Good luck with your running and please let us know how it all goes for you.

[–]Vincenorris1010 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you! I will do.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He's doing good, any help is appreciated. Im just saying we need to fight the system. Raising money wont help stop discrimination against men.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's great. I fully support the idea of helping men and raising funds. But im just saying that if we really want change we must make more noise and force the media to notice us. I never heard of international men's day. I know noshave november but it pales in comparison to womens month. Womens day/month have commercials on tv and posters all over the city but never do i see anything or anyone talk about men's issues.

These things cost money. That's the first step to getting the message out there, raising money.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where do feminists get all the money from? How did feminism start? We should do the same. They feminism didnt start by women raising funds to help women. It started by protesting and boycotting and making a lot of noise. Any publicity is good publicity. Dont need to pay the media, if we are vocal enough. Just need to find out where they will report next and go make noise there.
