I'm having trouble not raping. Could someone please tell me where I can find a class to learn not to?

It's weird how women are allowed to exhibit themselves any way they want but men aren't allowed to look at them or else they're considered "pervs".

So are anti-begging and anti-rough sleeping laws sexist against men, since men are the large majority of beggars and rough sleepers?

[–]furchfur 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That would seem correct

Yes I think so, this should this ruling could be a blessing in disguise for men.

White men aren't a protected class (at least not in the UK), so I'm not sure that this would work in men's favour unless it could be shown that black/minority ethnic/gay/disabled men were disproportionately affected.

The sex discrimination act 197?, lord bless it, applies, at least in principle to sex discrimination: discrimination based on sex, male or female.

Back in those days there were only two

Race and sex/gender are covered by the equality act, so yes: that intersection is just as protected as any other. At least in theory.

But single mother Rosie Keogh won compensation for sex discrimination from a lettings agency that refused to consider her as a tenant because she was on state benefit.

The cleaner and former paralegal successfully argued that blanket bans on benefit claimants indirectly discriminated against women, especially single women.

This is because they are proportionately more likely to be claiming housing benefit than single men, according to official figures.

So if more men were claiming benefit, that would be ok? And in what other areas could men claim discrimination?

It does make you wonder.

And I see ads for female tenants only all the time.

So you simply deny them based on the fact that they don't make enough money....

[–]nforne 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The reason doesn't matter. They'd still consider that indirect discrimination.

[–]kartu3 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

That's court, not BBC.

The reasoning is hard to follow without accepting some genders are less important than others.

Could also merely be a loophole: you can't claim discrimination against on benefit claimants, but can, if it is "targeted against gender". Now, I'm not sure whether law is symmetric and would apply to the other gender as well.

The article is from the BBC. So yes, it is BBC.

[–]InBaggingArea[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The Gender Sex Discrimination Act is symmetrical.

Someone should sue the car insurance companies then because they skirt the equality laws by claiming that they base their rates on a persons job with jobs dominated by men resulting in higher premiums.

The judge needs disbarred immediately.
