Thousands of dads are left in shock as DIY paternity tests soar. Up to 30,000 tests are being performed every year, says Alphabiolabs. In the UK about 750,000 babies are born every year. Feminists want the test to be illegal without the written consent of the mother.

Peterson has been getting a ridiculous amount of negative attention lately. No academic should be treated that badly. But he's right - there's really no conservatives in academia and the very few that are get pretty ostracized. Conservatism, whether we like it or not, is a legitimate perspective and should warrant respect, not slander. It's ancient, as old as civilization I imagine.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think that's it's entirely irrelevant whether it's a "legitimate perspective" or not. People are entitled to believe what they want to believe. Even if it's nonsense, like feminism.

If you disagree with their perspective, then you should be able to argue against it. Rather than simply try to shut down that perspective by demonizing them [racist, sexist, homophobic, etc].

The problem is that a lot of people don't even understand their own position, let alone other perspectives. So they can't defend their own perspective, so instead of doing so they just demonize you if you disagree.

Hell, you can agree in general but disagree in methods used or the reasoning used and still be called the laundry list of dehumanizing words so people won't listen to you since you're super evil and stuff.

Because they don't know what the hell they're talking about. Most of them are just parroting talking points. Talking points that often contradict their other points. But they wouldn't know that, since they don't understand what they're saying.

We need discourse again.

I think that's it's entirely irrelevant whether it's a "legitimate perspective" or not.

That's fair. I was just trying to point out that the philosophy behind what we call today "conservatism" has a very old and incredibly sophisticated epistemology behind it. I was appealing to a very specific "left" leaning audience that might be unfamiliar with that.

The thought of strong independent critically thinking young men scares them.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You could probably stop at critically thinking and be right.

NY Times is infested with SJW bullshit these days. I wouldn't consider it a respectable journal any more: time to toss it on the heap with the rest of the tabloid rags...

Broken clock is right twice a day.

It's clear that there's a not-insignificant portion of the media that's one big incestuous club... and reasonable people who think outside of the group aren't welcome in it. I don't even think it's intentional on their part, I think a lot of the lower-level people in it have bought the indoctrination whole hog, and as 'true believers' never question the positions they have an ostracize people who do. This forces people like Peterson to go to other media sources like Fox and independent media platforms, which only reinforces their belief that men like Peterson are wrong and evil because "look who they're CHOOSING to talk to (even though we refuse to talk to or acknowledge him honestly ourselves)".

They exist perpetually in the bubble, and men like Peterson are walking needles.

Anyhow, isn't 'bestseller' just reflection of book's actual sales?

[–]eightgaydiamonds 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They did something similar to Milo. The prestige is over. SJW newspaper.

Isn't he the crazy God freak?

Edit: looking into the information, it seems that his book in on the Most Read list for Amazon because it's available for free as an audiobook.

[–]furchfur[S] 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

No. He is disliked by the man hating left wing parties.

[+]kinyutaka -22 points-21 points-20 points 8 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Like I said. Crazy God freak.

And he should be the first one to advocate for my right to call him a crazy God freak, because he regularly argues against political correctness.

[–]Lethn 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Let me put it this way, just because other people disagree with your assertion of him being a crazy god freak and mock you for it doesn't mean that your rights are being affected by it. It says a lot about you and your mentality that you think you can say shit about him like that and not face any backlash. As usual, people who make your types of comments only want free speech to apply to them and no one else.

You see this shit with a lot of left wing journalists and politicians, screeching about death threats and claiming harassment the moment they get any form of criticism.

If I was worried about the downvotes, I would have deleted the comments.

My whole point of repeating the insult was the very fact that you guys are getting all offended by it. Even to the point of telling me to get off the internet.

Because my being nice about a person that I don't respect is just as bad as trying to be politically correct.

[–]KingRobotPrince 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Yes, we realise that you are a troll.

And yet, you still reply.

[–]KingRobotPrince 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Why wouldn't I?

[–]kinyutaka 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I dunno. I guess we're both equally bored.

But all things for serious, I don't like Jordan. I'd insult him even if no one heard it.

[–]KingRobotPrince 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Who do you like? Are there any people who make you feel like you want to be a better person? Who answer your questions about life?

[–]KingRobotPrince 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I would appeal to the part of you that still wonders about the world.

In JP's recent book he explains that the reason he uses the bible is that it forms such a significant part of Western culture. It has been written, edited, re-written, and it makes up a considerable part of our Western values. It deals with issues that we deal with every day. I am in no way religious, but I realise that the stories of the bible are meant to teach a lesson, not to turn you into a "religious freak". Why not listen?

Chances are, you live by the rules of the bible without even knowing it. You just take it for granted.

I highly recommend that you take a look at his series of lecture on the bible. Keep an open mind. He's not trying to recruit you or convert you. he's analysing the Story, and what it symbolises.

They're really worth a watch, especially if you're bored.

[–]circlhat 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it use to be politically correct to beat up homosexual men, political correctness isn't always a good thing

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And he should be the first one to advocate for my right to call him a crazy God freak, because he regularly argues against political correctness.

Where do you get this idea that anyone advocating against political correctness is a "Crazy God Freak"?

[–]kinyutaka 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because he uses religion for his shit. And worse, he might just use religion.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because he uses religion for his shit.

Where is he using his religion for his shit?

And worse, he might just use religion.

What makes you think he might?

[–]nggarmy 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You clearly aren't intelligent enough to be on the Internet.

[–]kinyutaka -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because I don't drink this guy's Flavor-ade?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually, I watched an interview that asked him about his beliefs, and it seems like he views God as a kind of symbolic figure rather than a literal one, and follows Christianity in the sense that he sees it as purely an organisational structure for communities.

So, he doesn't literally believe in magic sky wizards.

[–]SoulLess-1 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Is he religious? Because if he isn't, even if you have the right to do so, it doesn't make remotely sense to call him that.

According to this video, he is either a believer or a liar.

And frankly, calling him a God freak is the best thing I could call him.
