That’s how it would be ideally in every case, however what we see today is mothers using the children as a weapon to get back at the husband.

Family court is rigged to provide mothers with whatever they need, often with total disregard to the needs and quality of life of the children and the father.

I know other people who have handled their coparenting this way after a breakup. Remember, the people who DON'T feel screwed over by their/their parent's divorce aren't generally talking about it online.

Given your mother could have destroyed a large part of your dads life, but instead did the right thing by you and the other kids is great. Ideally both parents should stay together for the kids best outcome but it is not always possible. This seems the next best thing and is a lot better than the usual every other weekend etc. This is why anyone with half a brain should be questioning why on family breakdown it has become like it has. All the evidence shows that children thrive a lot better with their father involved, but its become this abomination where at the word of the mother the dad can be cut out of a child's life. The evidence shows where dad is cut out of a child's life that child is less likely to fail in school, get into trouble with the law etc. Even where there is zero evidence of DV the woman word is good enough to treat dad as a violent thug in family court, even where there is strong evidence and witnesses of mums violence it is a major miracle if the children end up with dad. There is no consequences for women who mess around with contact, yet if the man misses a child support payment even if they are in a coma there is hell to pay. The family courts and the way laws work are emphatically biased for the mothers interests not the child. Social services don't even consider in child at risk cases that perhaps dad might be a safe environment, instead its back to mum, give mum money to help her treat the child as she should have been in the first place anything but consider the parent who may well provide an environment that the child will thrive. Well this is what I was told by a non feminist social worker.
