A bit long but I'll feel better once I've said it: I work at a second-hand store and am the only man there save for one other guy. He mostly watches the backdoor and takes in donations but we both do the heavy lifting. Just for the record, women outnumber us here I'd say 10-1. That's not necessarily the bad part.

Anyway, most of the time we're all in the back room organizing clothes, testing electronics, etc. Every once in a while a discussion will come up about one of these women's husbands. After most of them have their opinion voiced about that man, they inevitably look at me. As if waiting to hear my comment about it. I usually say something like, "No comment." At which point they all chime in with some version of, "Good! Keep your mouth shut." "You NEED to be quiet."

Another one was when I accidentally took something that one of them said and I turned it into a sexual pun. Then I said, "I really should think before I talk." Which was followed by a, "All men should think before they talk."

This just irks me because if the roles were flipped and it was a room full of men and one woman that's been told to keep her mouth shut, there'd be mass hysteria and maybe some layoffs. But I've learned that if you spend all of your time pulling that whole "If the roles were flipped" thing, then you're gonna be exhausted because it's everywhere.

Both men and women suffer from crap like this but only one side can call people out on it. I'm trying to let these things roll off of my back because it's still one of the better places I've worked... Besides the occasional man-bashing.
