Yet no-one cares because no-one has truely experienced what REAL utterly hopeless, homelessness entails. My heart goes out to you homeless people.

Interesting how he explains the difference between how the welfare office reacts to homeless men and homeless women; when it's a man, he isn't really seen as vulnerable or in need of help. This is very much like London, almost every single homeless person you see is male, and mostly white at that. I talked to many of them and they all say the same thing- when they went to the council to apply for housing, they were told that as single white men, they aren't considered "vulnerable" enough to qualify for housing. They say it's very bureaucratic, and they are sent in circles. I did an experiment and went in saying I was facing homelessness to see what they'd do. They directed me to the back where the "homeless office" was. When I got there, I was told there was no homeless office, and to go to the front. When I got to the front again, they told me to leave.

It's ridiculous to suggest that any sort of societal privilege protects homeless people. The men I talked to constantly faced hunger, cold, and assault. Some of them I go to know died or were attacked in the 14 months I was there, some by freezing to death. Many were elderly. Youtube "homeless london" and click on any video where a homeless man is interviewed, you'll see, all white men, and many say that's what they are told. Anyone living in London can see this to, just walk around anywhere, see who you see on the streets.

How does it make sense that the economically privileged class is so much more likely to be homeless? In what society is the oppressed class less likely to be homeless, and more likely to receive assistance?

Isn't that proportion about normal?

In recession the number of women can increase until female privilege catches up, but generally rates over 90% are normal aren't they?

There's no need for a woman to be homeless in a homogenous society like Japan's. They take of their own.

Although it's a little funny when a western academic calls it "sexist" that men are expected to support themselves and women aren't. I would just call it "conservative." Men and women do not have the same advantages and disadvantages. So what. This has nothing to do with fairness.
