The military likes to really fuck guys down when they go through divorce. Far more than the civilian world. It way way worse.

I mean, it's not really surprising either. Men's situations in their personal lives can be extremely dire given established cultural trends, and the trauma they face at home can be just as bad as the traumas they face abroad. Men might resort to the military when they are desperate and the military has kind of always relied on men's desperation to bolster their numbers.

I have heard this as a common response to male suicide: "if you're really that desperate to die, just join the military and die with purpose". For desperate men, the military can be a "dignified way out". The military is also a way to experiencing adventure when your life is a dread. The military is also employment when no other alternatives are available/viable. The military is also a means of escape for men who have nowhere safe to go.

People don't really talk much about this aspect of the military but it can absolutely be viewed by a lot of men as a one way ticket out of a really shitty situation, because men simply do not have the social care, support and safety nets that women benefit from.
