Throwaway account for obvious reasons...
I've been battling a fear of public speaking for a decade. If I can overcome this then I don't feel like anything is standing in the way of my success. If I can't overcome it, this threatens to define me as a man.
I don't care to get into the psychology of the fear... If you have experienced this then you know there is a powerful self-reinforcing feedback loop. I have tried hypnosis with modest improvement, and I have been to toastmasters with the intent of desensitizing myself. I am going to start toastmasters again this week. However, without a serious plan of attack I am skeptical that I will be able to over-power this fear. It is deeply ingrained.
MEN: Has anyone overcome this fear in a serious way? What do you recommend? I don't want to rely on drugs like propranolol. I need to attack this fear if I have any hope of reaching my potential as a man and a leader.
