"Ugly" or average looking, but high status and/or rich. The average anonymous Joe is highly unlikely to date "bombshells" and having a long term, faithful relationship with one would be damn near impossible.

I would also like to add that Mel Gibson is used as an example here and the man was handsome as fuck in his younger years and if he shaved off that Jesus beard he'd still be seen as highly desirable for his age.

David Shade isn't ugly, I mean he isn't pretty, but he's not ugly. Still getting Naya is impressive, especially given not only is she hotter, but her career is fresher then his. Good for them both.
