I had an acquaintance who had something very similar to this happen. He became aware of some scams that the caretaker of his apartment building was running. Shortly after he became aware that the caretaker was watching him. Every time he left, he saw the caretaker loitering around. He started noticing marks around the lock on his door like someone tried to break in. He started noticing strange smells coming from the vent in his kitchen and strange powders near his windows. He set up cameras in his apartment but never caught anything conclusive. He hired an investigator to sweep his apartment for hidden surveillance equipment but they found nothing.

Eventually he noticed people following him. Cars following him on the way to work. People on the street. At work someone frequently watched him through the windows. He saw strange blobdibg lights flashing by his eyes that looked like lasers. He said they were trying to blind him.

He took his landlord to court for stalking . He specified a date and time he saw the landlord following him. The landlord showed the court photos and a ticket from a baseball game proving that he had a rock solid alibi. He showed me photos he believed lasers were being shined at him but they were just everyday lens flares. He showed me video of him sleeping where he believed someone was in the room. It was just the blanket moving as he rolled over in his sleep. He showed me the guy watching him across the street. It was just a jogger.

None of the stuff he was seeing was real. He has paranoid schizophrenia. It produces hallucinations and delusions or persecution. It is an insidious disorder because the sufferer literally cannot distinguish hallucinations from reality. They think everyone is out to get them.

Ask yourself logically what is most likely, for dozens of people with no apparent connection to all be in a conspiracy to destroy one person for no reason....or....for one person to be sick?

Please, get help. This disease frequently drives the victims to suicide if left untreated. Reach out to your wife, family, and other loved ones. Please.

This is a nightmare. On one hand, it sounds like you're suffering from paranoia. But what if you're not?

I'd recommend you to document everything. Any strange thing, put it down on paper with the date and exact time. Don't miss anything.

Can you write to your former clients? Can you very politely ask for feedback about why they left?

Can you also start gathering evidence of everything? Passport denied? Ask for a written reasoning. You find something weird? Take pictures.

Do you trust anyone to go over all this evidence and give you their honest opinion?

Just to be clear, you won't prove anything you said to anyone on here - not even a picture of your verizon router?

Can you tell some of the untruths that made you suspicious of your wife?

Or let's start with this: Can you prove anything relevant like messages or how you know they are "on my home network and phones" etc. with hard evidence at least to yourself? Do you have physical evidence of anything that can't be easily interpreted differently by anyone (earnest) reading it?

(Things like a dropped credit score would not count because this is the result of whatever happened and could have any number of reasons - your stated reasons are in need of proof not necessarily the outcome.)

Because, and I'm sorry, but for now this seems way too similar to what a friend of mine is going through:

First people started talking behind his back, then they followed him around and home. They knew what he said online and on the phone, they hacked his pc, so he had to reinstall windows several times. This (and some other stuff) escalated to the point where he actually went to another country, because some people were after him.

However, someone must have told the people there what the plan was, because, yet again, people talked behind his back, and to him, and they made strange signs as to make it clear to him, that they were in on it. First it was just the people he lived with and their neighbours - controlling his wifi, looking through the windows whenever they felt unobserved. Eventually they must have made sure that everywhere he went, there was someone who told others what was going on. Even in other cities he wasn't alone, people were watching, they were talking to and about him. And then, finally, it was me too. Every sentence I said obviously had a different meaning - speaking to the people around me, mocking him. "I know you'll say it ain't true, but I saw them talking to you, saw them winking", "It's okay I know you're in on it, you can tell me".

I actually believed him (although I thought he exaggerated) up to when it suddenly wasn't just the people he lived with - they were... interesting - but his neighbours too. I'm not sure if he's still in treatment as he does his darndest to cut interaction with almost anyone to a minimum...

Now I'm not going to say this is you, since I don't know anything about you, but some odd similarities are there:

"They'd walk up to me on the street and say rude things to me."

"So I start noticing cars following me, and groups of people following me. Saying very strange things to me, or acting aggressively when it made no sense to be aggressive."

"Well, that and seeing the nsa constantly on my home network and phones."

"All while this is happening I catch my wife of 16 years in several... untruths, that would suggest that she at least partially knows what is happening, and is complicit in it."

"They touch their faces a lot (a sign of lying) when giving me advice."

"which seems just a tad odd, and highly unlikely to be put there on accident."

Always with the caveat, that there could be the one person who actually is fucked over by someone, I see: Random stuff gets meaning: a wifi password (or whatever) is a message, not random. Body movement is clearly a sign and not random. But, on the contrary, pretty much everything you said has the potential to be random events overinterpreted by a brain that has its pattern recognition on steroids.

So what should you do? I think you should make sure that you have hard evidence for at least some of your claims, so the next person will have to take you seriously - and if you already have such evidence, make sure you can present it in a condensed manner. If you have a clear-cut case even a journalist might take it up. (But if you can't produce such evidence, maybe you will have to trust some doc eventually...)

But personally, I can't just "listen and believe"...

I'm not going to write you off entirely, but there are first a few things you need to take into account. These drugs the doctor was trying to give you and the weed sounds like they could have been a huge part of the problems you're dealing with at least in regards to perception, it will have definitely messed with your thought processes. The police as well will have likely dismissed you based on those grounds.

However, the story of a batshit crazy ex certainly sounds plausible, now if you haven't gone to the FBI, I would seriously do it if your life is in danger and being ignored by the police. There have actually been cases where women have been caught by sting operations where they're actually trying to get their husbands killed.

You don't know it was the government, the ex could have been very easily lying in order to scare you. This is all pretty out there even for me but If there are actually people that are genuinely trying to go after you she could have hired some criminals to do it. If you still have records of those threatening messages you got, take them to the FBI as evidence and bring absolutely everything, if they've been going on for a long time they can trace these people.

You may not know this, but really your average police officer and the government in general is technologically illiterate. The FBI however have dealt with stuff like Silk Road before ( Online darknet website that dealt in drugs and counterfeit gear ) so they may not be even capable of looking at all of this stuff professionally.

As for all the weird technical shit like being denied passport, for all you know as well they're simply hacking into the computer and messing with your records specifically, again, you don't know it's a government agency. I can totally appreciate the paranoia if this is real and you're clearly panicking quite a bit now though, try to think with a clear head.

TLDR: So in short, absolutely go to the FBI, submit any evidence of these people that you have. By the way, those bank details of the weird withdrawals and so on and expenses are exactly what they'd need to start a case and put you under police protection as well as it's a money trail, they will be the most solid evidence you have that something crazy is going on in your life, good luck is all I can really say after that.

I have to ask though as well, your ex didn't have any links to political groups of any sort did she? Did she brag about anything else?
