Such a trend does not seem to occur in males though, which appears to be at least one difference between the sexes as far as relationships go. If you take a liberal approach and assume that both sexes are equal, such a difference will be confusing and probably summed up as a cultural difference (misogyny) as opposed to merely a biological difference.

Of course, this makes sense considering there are few psychological differences in general between men and women according to meta-analyses. Physical, yes. Men and women have differing average height, muscle, and body fat, as well as means of metabolism (converting pregnenalone to progesterone vs testosterone etc) which plays a role in developing certain pathologies, but psychologically we really aren't all that different. Which makes a lot of sense considering we're still the same species and developed the same way before SRY kicked in.

Feelings of regret do differ between genders, but it isn't to a huge extent. "78 percent of women and 72 percent of men who had uncommitted sex (including vaginal, anal, and/or oral sex) reported a history of experiencing regret following such an encounter" (Fisher et al., 2012). On top of it, this is most likely due to an amalgam of factors. For instance, a ton of feelings and beliefs stem from erroneous expectations on what others are doing or how others will perceive them, not actual biology.

So what stems regret itself aside from expectations? Turns out a lot of it has to do with the actual quality of sex itself. Women, on average, are most likely to achieve orgasm through oral sex. And when I say average, please do not make that anything more than it is. Average. That means many women are still more likely to reach orgasm through other means, and some may not reach it (unfortunately I have to mention that specifically because statistics seem to be continually misconstrued when others want to claim how "all women" are). Regardless, only 15% of women report receiving oral the last time they had sex, compared to 56% of men. The next day they were more likely to report regretting sex. Men also finish quicker on average. This may help explain why lesbians have longer sex than heterosexual couples, and have the highest chance of achieving orgasm when compared to women in heterosexual relationships. Again, take that with a grain of salt, as I am not remotely claiming that heterosexual couples can't have good sex. This is just referring to one possible explanation as to why regret should not be used synonymously with guilt.

As for dopamine... that's quite a complex neurotransmitter. But dopamine does seem to play a role in risky behaviors and/or predisposition to addiction. Garcia, MacKillop, et al. (2010) found an association between DRD4 VNTR (a gene polymorphism) and uncommitted sexual activity. No statistically significant sex differences were observed.

This simply means that people with a predisposition to risky behavior may be more likely to have sex with multiple partners as well as struggle with recreational drug use. This doesn't mean that people who have multiple partners are more likely to have a domaine receptor polymorphism.

In all, biological factors that motivate the sexual behavior for men and women appear to be rather sexually monomorphic, and longitudinal studies pointing to possible dysfunction in marriage cannot be used as evidence of a specific cause, as that is impossible with the very definition of an observational longitudinal study.

Yes, it is. I'm not putting down marriage, nor am I putting down committed relationships or monogamy. Sex with the right person can be something special. It can have deeper meaning and involve intricate, incredible emotions. But that doesn't mean that those things have to be involved in order for the act to be healthy or ethical.

Humans have been having sex for pleasure and fun since the dawn of mankind. I value every lover I've had, regardless of if we spent time together for only a single night or if we were devoted to each other for years. Even one night stands with someone just passing through your life can allow you to learn and feel things about the person that can't be labeled anything other than definitely human.

I fully respect people who decide to make their virginity or sex in general something special - after all, each of our lives are our own - but to demonize someone for not deciding to take that path is absurd.

I suppose several Roman citizens from different periods might have said the same, some might have even said that you are the one who is outdated and wrong. Whatever you believe you think makes you cool, modern and righteous isn't anything that can't be found in another time.

Try to think for yourself why something would be good or bad, instead of having a knee-jerk reaction based on the morality supported and encouraged by our current decadent society. Being outraged doesn't make you right, ethics are timeless and their foundation can be found on reason.

No doubt in the 1800s they had a better understanding of leading a proper life with principles and virtue, all you know and enjoy is thanks to them to begin with, that is a lot more that can be said rather than our current society that is heading towards collapse and is so incompetent, egotistical and irresponsible that it keeps getting further in debt to enjoy at their children's expense.

If you debase yourself with sex, it's degenerate. The same applies to all basic instincts; nothing wrong with eating, a lot of wrong with eating like a pig.

An hedonist lifestyle is corrosive to your morals and kills you, slowly but surely, like drugs, a bottomless pit with no ending to how much agony to fall into. Happiness and fulfillment come with purpose and virtue.

I'd also question your claim that one night stands are in any way natural or healthy. It doesn't happen in nature that animals go around looking for a different animal to fuck every weekend, neither can they allow themselves such luxury, they need to spend most of their efforts on other areas to survive. If it wasn't because technological progress to increase productivity and to fight against STDs or prevent them (like a condom), which isn't in any way the natural state of things, you'd die very fast. If anything nature seems to punish promiscuity as much as it can.
