I see where you're coming from, but consider it this way.

When you advocate for men's rights (i.e. Something as simple as "I don't like how divorce courts treat men") you have just made yourself a men's rights advocate, because that's how words work. There is no extra baggage that comes along with this, no extra laundry list of things you've just agreed to if you want this label, it's that simple. But consider feminism. There is no one thing you can do that makes you a feminist, hell, even they can't agree on a definition. And if you do call yourself a feminist, you will immediately be strapped with tons of other things you are now obligated to care about and do. And yes, If you advocate for women's rights, I would also say that that, in itself, makes you a women's rights advocate.

I appreciate that you want to help prevent the MRM from turning into feminism, I spend a fair amount of time on this sub trying to do the same thing, but I believe you are wrong in this instance.

As a side though, I would agree that trying to force a label on someone is not the right way to go about things.
