I don't intend to read that because I find her to be tendentious, dishonest, question-begging and fatuous. Care to explain what you mean?

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Don't blame you. "The Men Feminists left behind" for people unfamiliar with Jill seems like a title to a fair and balanced expose. Instead her thesis is that men haven't evolved whereas women have. To catch up, men should devote themselves more to household chores and traditionally female work/industries - e.g. embrace "fluid gender roles."

No word on when women should start shoveling coal though, right?

She wouldn't do an 'expose' on feminism. She still thinks UVA's Jackie was gang-raped on a pile of glass FFS. The way women have evolved, in her mind is simple: They've gone from being perfect saints to being even more perfecter saints while men are still dwelling in caves, eating grubs they hooked out of termite mounds and wearing dinosaur skins. And raping everything that walks.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Only mentions Yale law school grads, business executives, and...of course...President.

We need to evolve to satisfy her? If she believes that women have evolved, she is very much wrong. This has to be the height of feminie vanity.

[–]fengpi 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Well, a fine question is: would any of these evolved females want to hook-up with a man who stays at home to push the vacuum cleaner and not be the primary earner. And most of them would die laughing at the thought.

Everything that Jill scorns men about as "not evolving" is due to female demands upon men which have intensified rather than evolved.

I wasn't able to read the NYT post, my browser is out of date. If she wants a man to completely carry her, I don't know where she should begin to look. I don't think any man wants that. I hope she can do her own vacuuming and enjoy her cat.

[–]fengpi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

She doesn't want a man to carry her. She wants a man who "accepts her as an equal"-- what the hell ever living crazy FUCKA-MA-GOG that is supposed to mean on that particular day of the week-- and nonetheless also blows her away with his wealth, status, good looks, car, fame, rugged solid pillar of tender support he provides her with when she needs someone stoic and tough to lean-upon in tough times and what ever else it is that she manages to dream-up over croissants that morning.

Meanwhile, she brings her opinions to the table. Loads and loads of them. So it'll be a partnership of equals.

Since you put it that way, I don't think that I will marry her. I don't think that I will ask her out on a date.

[–]wanderer779 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wasn't able to read it due to the fact that the NYT is shitty liberal propaganda that makes me sick to my stomach.

Yeah it looked interesting then it turned in to "men are at fault because they haven't embraced feminism enough". Kinda the opposite of the title.

When Hillary Clinton started at Yale Law School in 1969, there was only one woman in the United States Senate. It was legal for a man to rape his wife

wha?

[–]fengpi 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

See, back then, it was thought that since a man was obligated to financially-support his wife, the woman was obligated to provide sex. That was outrageous, completely unfair and a kind of rape.

Today, a man is still obligated to financially-support his wife (or ex-wife) while a woman is obligated to provide fucking zilch, so it's a fairer exchange. Things just keep getting more and more "equal," whereby "equal" means "whatever the hell Princess wants."

She seems to have an oversimplified view of why so many people are going to vote Trump.

I'm Australian. I can't vote for either candidate. Theyre both awful in different ways

For a lot of voters, its not racism or sexism that is doing it. It is the constant stream of scandals and wrongdoing by Clinton while she was sec. of state, the large amount of evidence that she and the DNC rigged the dem primaries, the distrust of US political dynasties, and hatred of foreign/special interests buying US political favours.

Trump, as a person, comes across as an asshole, and has definitely said and done some distasteful things. But, he doesn't seem to have the deliberate evil/corruption that Clinton does. (Although I disagree with several of his policies; distasteful policies != corruption and illegal activities)

Men haven’t gained nearly as much flexibility. The world has changed around them, but many have stayed stuck in the past. While women have steadily made their way into traditionally male domains, men have not crossed the other way.

I find it striking how she locates the blame with men rather than institutions. For instance, when you walk into a school and find all or almost all the staff are female, is it any surprise men don't feel very welcome? I'm a former teacher, so I should know.

Male identity remains tied up in dominance and earning potential, and when those things flag, it seems men either give up or get angry.

Could that be because male attractiveness to women remains tied up in dominance and earning potential?

Men don’t need more masculine posturing or promises to restore them to forever-gone greatness. What they need is to make their own move toward gender equality, to break down the stereotypes and fetters of masculinity... Life really is better with more fluid gender roles that allow individuals to do what they’re good at instead of what’s socially prescribed. Every feminist I know will tell you that men bring much more to the table than physical strength or a paycheck, and that we would love a world in which men were free to be resilient and tender, ambitious and nurturing, expressive and emotional.

So apparently being able to walk down the road in a dress should compensate us for failing in education, getting the short end of the straw in DV and family courts, unequal health outcomes, higher workplace mortality, gender bias in the courts, higher incarceration, etc.?

I also have to question this idea that men have ever really been that restricted in emotional expression. Sounds like a possible stereotype to me.

This is par for liberal press. When women have problems it is due to systemic problems that need to be addressed. When men have problems it's their fault and we should mock and insult them.

"We've created all these quotas and incentives to get women in to male institutions but done nothing the other way . . . why aren't men moving in to women's institutions the way women are? Must be because they're misogynists and unevolved and . . . ew a man! Get out of my safe space rapist!".

"It’s impossible to say whether a female president would help normalize female power and heal some of the rifts made visible by this election, or if she would so enrage many men that these gaps will only cleave wider. What is clear now is that this is the great unfinished business of the feminist project, a long-fermenting suspicion brought into bright light by this election: Expanding roles and opportunities for women cannot usher in full gender equality unless men change."

.... because all women, including Silly Jilly herself, are perfect and need never change.

The one sided Premise of Patriarchy that Jilly and her ilk peddle always diverts from the very reality of female complicity. Filipovic keeps making everyone look at what men did, have done and do, and is an expert in fooling herself that women have really never done anything. She plays the Blame Game one would normally only see a Five Year old use .... and when she is challenged over her bias she sucks in he cheeks, plays the innocent and never remembers that she is neither cute enough or juvenile enough to pull off such a Po-faced Defence!
