Totalitarianism in academia? Thoughtcrime? Prof Fiamengo talks as if she has personal experience in the matter...

On the off-chance she reads this forum, and the even slighter chance she reads this post, I thank her for the content she puts up and particularly for not only refusing to be silenced but posting content with striking similarities to the situation she finds herself in.

Ah, but where are my manners? I welcome readers from the University of Ottawa. I hope you learn something from what Prof. Fiamengo talks about in the video linked above, if not from her personal plight. After all, universities are first and foremost places of learning, are they not.

This is an amazing video because she is genuinely sympathetic, or at least empathetic, towards the intellectuals she's charging with authoritarianism. I genuinely felt bad for them when she started talking about how they feel unimportant and often isolated from society outside their own specialized spheres. They are truly pitiable, and for once I can sincerely say that about a group I consider my enemies, without meaning insult by it.

I mean, usually saying "I feel sorry for you" does not in fact mean "I feel sorry for you," of course, but means instead "You are embarrassing yourself and I've just about had it." Which is why I have almost never used it; it's just obnoxious and disingenuous emotional manipulation, a tactic of bullies, usually speaking poorly about the character of whoever uses it. But in this case, I feel really sorry for SJW academics. All thanks to Fiamengo's intimate and emotionally insightful analysis here.
