There is one thing though that does bother me.

"She has said the Ventura County District Attorney's Office offered her a plea deal for a six-year sentence, which she decided not to take."

If it's true, what is that saying? I don't think the prosecutor believed that she was abused. They presented a case that refuted that and the jury concurred. Is it simply just an aspect of the sentencing disparity that the offender wasn't smart enough to take or Is the realization that a woman can essentially get away with murder by blaming the victim so likely that the prosecutor is willing to take 6 years for a 50 year crime so the victim can have some measure of justice.
