I don't know why, but there is something about this gif that is male-positive on so many levels. (repost from r/funny)

"Men start all the wars" is an inaccurate stereotype.

People only need to look at the political records of every female leader: Empress Wu, Catherine the Great, Queens Mary, Victoria & Elizabeth, Golda Meir, Indira Gandhi, Margret Thatcher, Julia Gillard.

Not one of them has hesitated to send the boys of their country to their deaths.

The key being "the boys" doing the fighting. Integrate the forces as much as you want, "the boys" will always be the ones doing the most dangerous work of society. Often forgotten in the "war on women".

Julia Gillard

What war did she start? I agree with your comment but must protest about Gillard. I voted for her.

There's no point in having a nuclear deterrent if the person at the top is not prepared to use it. Even if he/she is not prepared to use it, the perception that he is, is paramount to the validity of the deterrent. This says more of the morality of he predecessors than it does about her.

Sir Geoffrey Howe, who was Foreign Secretary in the closing years of the cold war, said it was a question no prime minister should ever answer directly.

Sir Geoffrey is an ass.

Without being asked, Jeremy Corbyn volunteered the statement that “I’m not making the decision that kills millions of innocent people.”

Corbyn is unfit to be a leader.

He added: “I do not believe the threat of mass murder is a legitimate way to go about international relations.”

He may be right on that point, but once one country plays that card, you're in the game until everyone is out of the game.

Edit: for the public record:

from startaste sent 6 minutes ago

Speak for yourself, faggot. I don't want a mass murderer for a leader.

...

re: Hey

to startaste sent just now

I never said that anyone SHOULD use nuclear weapons, but they need to be prepared to if someone else acts first. That's how deterrence works. As long as the other guy is armed, you need to be armed and ready to act.

Don't call be a faggot, that is homophobic and you don't even know me.

Note that "startaste" was a new account, obviously set up just to PM me anonomously.

Australia gets along fine without nukes. Britain has no enemies and would do just as fine without nukes.

I'm speaking in general.

I aggree with you, but even as a fairly hawkish Briton, I'm increasingly of the view that the nuclear deferent is a waste of money. I know all the arguments and I've carefully considered them: Russia is troublesome, our oil and gas sources are perilous, parts of the Middle East are a cespit of ISIS etc.

But still...nuclear missiles? Really? If there was ever a cause to use them everything would've gone to complete shit anyway. We're better-off trading it in a deal - tell Russia and China we'll get rid of ours if they get rid of theirs. And I know that still leaves the yanks toddling around the Spratling Islands, but I'm sure we can strike a deal on that.

I'm fully in agreement here. There needs to be a global disarmament process with the goal of eliminating all nuclear weapons completely and permanently. In the meantime, leaders need to be prepared to use them, and most importantly, be seen to be willing to use them if needed, otherwise, they are not a deterrent. And the only real reason to use them is if someone else used them first.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 70%. (I'm a bot)

Theresa May has declared without hesitation that she would order a nuclear strike to kill hundreds of thousands of people if she thought it was necessary.

The Prime Minister gave the blunt reply during a parliamentary debate on the renewal of the Trident nuclear weapons programme, which many suspect was staged by the government for the sole purpose of drawing attention to the rift between Jeremy Corbyn and a majority of Labour MPs. Ms May was challenged by the SNP's George Kerevan, who asked: "Are you prepared to authorise a nuclear strike that could kill hundreds of thousands of men, women and children?".

Officially, Parliament was being asked to agree to spend up to around £30 billion renewing the four Trident submarines that are equipped with nuclear missiles and warheads.
