Well, in a world where how much money you make is based on effort and performance that would make sense. But we don't live in such a world.

How much money you make is based on how much money you make your employer.

So if female athletes in some sports are more marketable while having to put in less effort, taking less risks and performing worse, because they have the inherent female sympathy and attractiveness bonus and consequently a greater and wider appeal, so be it.

I have less of a problem with that than with the more money rich people can make with less effort and risk just by already being rich.
At least for athletes there is a natural cap at the top for how much they can make since their earning potential is still tied to their person, and there is a cap the bottom that requires a minimum amount of effort and performance from them personally.

No professional female athlete should ever be paid more or even equal to their male counterparts regardless of sport.
