Neat paper, thanks! We had a few lectures over this our neurosciences course. It's actually pretty cool how well the vestibular system & cerebellum/basal ganglia can adapt to maintain stability, even in the face of (relatively) rapid changes in height.

I didn't read the full thing, but is this news? Honestly, "the brain not being used to height" seems like a general observation that anyone who has been, or seen teenage boys could readily make. I'm pretty sure I drew this conclusion in middle school.

What do you think?

What do you know?

What can you prove?

Do we need proof to understand something? I know that sounds pejorative but some things we do know to be true without having any sort of "provable" evidence for it. In which case, reason itself serves as all the proof we need. We live in a time of science, so much so that people seem to forget the truths that reason can lead us to.

Anyway, more to the point, if little Jimmy is walking fine, and one month he grows 3 inches and all of a sudden he starts tripping on stuff, it reasons well enough that Jimmy hadn't become use to the new length of his legs. I'm not entirely sure we needed a scientific study (which are not cheap) to verify that concept. In other news, freshman basketball player who recently underwent a growth spurt misjudging free throws..scientists to study phenomenon just to be sure..

I thought was just commonly accepted knowledge and was proven already.

I guess there is no hope for my sons. They will be tall and clumsy teenagers.

We learned this in middle school health class. I'm 35. Didn't know my podunk junior high was on the cutting edge of scientific research.
